CHAPEL HILL, N.C. \u2013\u00a0No. 1 North Carolina women’s lacrosse heads to New York for a ranked clash with No. 13 Syracuse on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Heels opened the year with a 19-11 victory at No. 19 JMU, while the Orange fell to No. 7 Maryland, 9-5. This will be the 22nd all-time match-up between the two programs with UNC holding a 13-8 lead. The Heels will look to even the series in the Dome as Syracuse currently holds a 4-3 edge. Last season, the Heels defeated the Orange 16-8 last season in Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n

\n\tNorth Carolina won its fourth National Championship (2013, ’16, ’22, ’25) after going undefeated with a record of 22-0 last season. UNC is just the 12th team to produce an undefeated season and it’s the second time for the Tar Heels after going 22-0 in 2022.
\n\tUNC has won eight ACC Tournament titles and 11 ACC regular-season championships, including eight outright.
\n\tNow in her 31st season, HC Jenny Levy<\/a> now has a career record of 444-130. The 444 wins rank second all-time and her four National Championships rank fourth all-time.
\n\tUNC was\u00a0the only undefeated team in the country last season after snapping Boston College’s 21-game winning streak. The Tar Heels current 23-game winning streak is the longest in the nation. The 23-game streak is\u00a0the third longest in program history and the 10th longest in NCAA history.
\n\tUNC continues to play one of the toughest schedules in the country. They have nine of the nation’s Top 20 teams on this season’s schedule.
\n\tCarolina outscored its opponents 384-151 (+233) in 2025. The 384 goals were a single-season program record. Its 10.6 scoring margin per game ranked first nationally. UNC ranked first in both the ACC and NCAA in scoring offense at 17.5 goals per game.
\n\tCarolina’s defense held opponents to 6.9 goals per game in 2025, which ranked first in both the ACC and NCAA. The team only allowed four double-digit scoring efforts all year. UNC kept its opponent scoreless in 18 quarters across the 22 games, including the final three quarters of the NCAA Semifinal versus Florida.
\n\tNine Tar Heels were recognized on various preseason All-America teams led by first teamers Sam Forrest<\/a>, Chloe Humphrey<\/a> and Brooklyn Walker-Welch<\/a>. In addition, Kate Levy<\/a>, Kily Mottice, Betty Nelson<\/a>, Eliza Osburn<\/a>, Addison Pattillo<\/a> and Ellie Traggio<\/a> were all recognized.
\n\tThe nation’s best player, Chloe Humphrey<\/a>, returns for her sophomore season in 2026. The reigning Honda Sports Award for Lacrosse and Tewaaraton winner was dubbed preseason Player of the Year by USA Lacrosse. Humphrey finished her stellar redshirt freshman campaign with an NCAA record 90 goals to go along with 28 assists for 118 points. She went on to win multiple gold medals with Team USA in the summer and was named the MVP of the Atlas Cup.
\n\tSam Forrest<\/a>, Chloe Humphrey<\/a> and Eliza Osburn<\/a>, along with current assistant coach Marie McCool<\/a>, were named to the Team USA roster for the 2026 World Championships in Tokyo this summer.
