New York State Police are warning drivers of a huge convey traveling at a slow speed in Upstate New York.<\/p>\n
Troopers, in coordination with the New York State Department of Transportation, will conduct a scheduled escort of oversized electrical transformers from Massena, in St. Lawrence County, to Malone in Franklin County on Thursday. <\/p>\n
According to a press release, the transformers are approximately 16 feet in height and weigh approximately 615,000 pounds (more than 300 tons). Due to the size and weight of the load, the convoy will travel at a maximum speed of approximately 8 miles per hour, police said.<\/p>\n
The escort is scheduled to leave the CSX railyard in Massena at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday. The convoy will travel along the following route:<\/p>\n
North on State Highway 420Left onto State Highway 37Continuing to State Route 56Left onto State Route 56 through the Village of PotsdamLeft onto State Route 11BContinuing to Malone, where the escort will conclude<\/p>\n
Police said drivers should expect traffic delays along the route Thursday morning and early afternoon. If you are driving in that area, allow for additional travel time or seek alternate routes when possible.<\/p>\n
