Photo by Lloyd Mitchell<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The sandwich is the restaurant\u2019s sandwich of the month, with less than two weeks to go before the mayoral general election on Nov. 4. It features grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella and arugula, with spicy calabrese chili spread on fresh ciabatta for $16.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-587811\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DSC_6072.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  \/>Sliwa arrives at Mario\u2019s Meats and Gourmet Deli to try the Curtis Sliwa Hero. I mean, the ultimate New York salute is to have a sandwich named in your honor, especially by such a chef extraordinaire,\u201d Sliwa said. \u201cOf course the red peppers are for the red beret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-587810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761207615_109_DSC_6105.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"633\"  \/>Photo by Lloyd Mitchell<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sliwa said the experience brought him back to working in his uncle\u2019s butcher shop, where he was in charge of cutting sausage and veal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-587815\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DSC_5496.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  \/>Sliwa, accompanied by New York City Council Member Robert Holden, meets DiGangi. He also made it clear that he is not content with dropping out of the general election, with his focus still on eating up the competition that is Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani and Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-587814\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DSC_5502.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"791\"  \/>Sliwa enjoyed the sandwich that was his namesake. Photo by Lloyd Mitchell<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Not long after his visit to Mario\u2019s Meats and Gourmet Deli, Sliwa made a <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2025\/10\/curtis-sliwa-middle-village\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">special appearance at the Queens Community Board 5 meeting<\/a> that evening at St. Margaret\u2019s Parish Hall in Middle Village.
