Give Mayor Zohran Mamdani this much: He wasn\u2019t afraid to bring the blarney to Albany for the Legislature\u2019s annual \u201cTin Cup Day,\u201d<\/a> when local officials plead for more cash from the state.<\/p>\n

Among his feats: Admitting that the $12 billion budget gap he pointed to just three weeks ago is already (mysteriously) down to $7 billion<\/a> \u2014 while still citing the larger figure as reason to pass the very same tax hikes<\/a> he\u2019s been calling for since before he admitted there was any gap at all.<\/p>\n

He also complained that New York City sends more cash to the state than it gets back in spending \u2014 pretending ignorance of the fact that this is how progressive taxation works.<\/p>\n

That is, Gotham is richer than the rest of the state: \u201cFrom each according to his ability, to each according to his need\u201d means the city should get less back.<\/p>\n

It also cuts against his demands for statewide tax hikes to fund spending for his NYC priorities: Democratic Socialists aren\u2019t supposed to play \u201creverse Robin Hood.\u201d<\/p>\n

He blamed ex-Mayor Eric Adams for \u201cgross fiscal mismanagement\u201d \u2014 without complaining that Adams spent too much (after all, Mamdani means to spend more) but simply whining that the last mayor didn\u2019t budget for the city\u2019s \u201cneeds.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he slammed another b\u00eate noire, ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, for supposedly stiffing the city of its due \u2014 again dancing around the fact that the Big Apple is \u201cthe rich\u201d compared to other cities, so maybe Cuomo was the true socialist?<\/p>\n

As new Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra<\/a> pointed out afterward, all of New York state faces huge \u201caffordability\u201d issues, so it\u2019s a mystery why Albany should focus on funding Mamdani\u2019s wish list.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Yorkers\u2019 faith in our democracy\u201d is \u201cat an all-time low,\u201d the mayor huffed, thanks to \u201cyears of having been deceived by the leadership of the past.\u201d<\/p>\n
