A new public\u00a0opinion poll\u00a0shows two-thirds of Americans now disapprove of ICE<\/a>, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That spells trouble for taxpayers and everyone who wants safe neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

A majority of Americans voted for President Donald Trump to enforce immigration laws.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The poll, done just after the shooting of two anti-ICE activists in Minneapolis, indicates how Democratic rhetoric and misleading media reports are causing many Americans to change their minds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Democrats in Congress are trying to hold back funds for ICE enforcement.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

If this growing movement to hamstring ICE and\u00a0let recent illegals stay here\u00a0succeeds, hold onto your wallet:\u00a0Either the criminal migrants roving the streets will rob you, or you\u2019ll have to empty your wallet yourself\u00a0to\u00a0pay for the welfare benefits that illegal immigrants consume.<\/p>\n

Last week, New York City cops nabbed four\u00a0gun-toting criminals\u00a0who robbed a couple on West 47th\u00a0Street.<\/a><\/p>\n

Because of New York\u2019s pro-criminal laws<\/a>, a judge let them back on the street within hours.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what\u2019s key: Three of the thugs already were wanted on ICE detainers.<\/p>\n

If politicians would let ICE do its job and remove these criminals, we\u2019d be a lot safer.<\/p>\n

New York data show illegal immigrants commit crimes three times as often as legal residents.<\/p>\n

Politicians who demand ICE leave their states are stabbing the public in the back.<\/p>\n

New Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D.) ordered state law enforcement<\/a> to dissolve any partnerships with ICE.<\/p>\n

Illinois\u2019 Gov. JB Pritzker is calling for the agency\u2019s abolition.<\/p>\n

Connecticut\u2019s Gov. Ned Lamont is telling ICE to\u00a0\u201cgo home.\u201d<\/p>\n

In New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul introduced legislation to limit local police cooperation with ICE<\/a>, calling\u00a0it \u201ca rogue federal agency unleashed\u00a0on the American streets for the sole purpose of creating chaos and fear.\u201d Nonsense.<\/p>\n

The tragic deaths in Minnesota need to be investigated, and ICE training procedures need to be adapted to the new reality of subversive agitators, likely belonging to the Chinese Communist Party-linked People\u2019s Forum, egging on crowds to obstruct ICE agents.<\/p>\n

They are not trained\u00a0to handle this manufactured obstruction.<\/p>\n

But ICE\u2019s core mission is vital.<\/p>\n

Violent crime surged during President Joe Biden\u2019s four years \u2014 at the same time the United States experienced an unprecedented influx of illegal migrants.<\/p>\n

Over 60% of those arrested by ICE in the last year have pending criminal charges or convictions, ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons\u00a0testified to\u00a0Congress on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Yet it\u2019s not just crime: If ICE is allowed to remove illegals, more of the nation\u2019s generous welfare benefits can go to needy Americans.<\/p>\n

An estimated 61% of households headed by an illegal immigrant used federal welfare benefits in 2024, including SNAP food assistance, Medicaid, federally supported health centers, substance-abuse treatment programs, mental-health services\u00a0and Head Start, per the Center for Immigration Studies.<\/p>\n

Illegal migrants are not eligible for these things under federal law, and Trump cracked down on their use when he took office in 2025.<\/p>\n

But many blue states, including California, Connecticut and New York, then shifted the cost to state taxpayers, blaming Trump\u2019s\u00a0\u201charsh cuts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unless ICE deports a large number of those who entered the country unlawfully, overstayed visas or were paroled during the Biden presidency, these migrants will cost America $1.5 trillion over their lifetimes.<\/p>\n

Migrants ages 18 to 24 without a high-school diploma cost taxpayers the most, consuming $332,000 in welfare and health benefits, according to the Manhattan Institute.<\/p>\n

Mayor Zohran Mamdani couldn\u2019t care less.\u00a0He just announced that the roughly 31,000 migrants depending on the city\u2019s shelter system<\/a> can stay for an unlimited time, at an estimated cost of $270 a day per family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mayor Eric Adams imposed a 30-60 day limit, to save taxpayers\u2019 money, but Mamdani is throwing that limit to the wind.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Hizzoner barred ICE from accessing records of those who use public benefits, saying \u201cno New Yorker should be afraid to apply for city services like child care because they are an immigrant.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani urges generosity \u201cfor the stranger among us.\u201d\u00a0Soaring rhetoric to be sure.<\/p>\n

But soon the mayor will have to deal with the reality of a multibillion-dollar budget hole, and ask other\u00a0New Yorkers to make sacrifices to provide child care for illegals.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Adams warned that the influx of illegals \u201cwould destroy New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was right. The city can\u2019t care for an unlimited number of \u201cstrangers among us.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mandami needs to put aside the fairytale rhetoric and work out an arrangement with his texting buddy \u2014 Donald Trump \u2014 to enable ICE to do its job safely here.<\/p>\n

In Gotham and across the nation, ICE\u00a0is\u00a0needed.\u00a0 Don\u2019t fall for the manufactured hysteria.<\/p>\n
