National School Bus Safety Week continues around the Rochester area, including at the West Irondequoit School District.<\/p>\n
Monroe County announced on Wednesday that the district is joining its School Bus Safety program.<\/p>\n
West Irondequoit uses First Student for its fleet.<\/p>\n
They’ll now be equipped with cameras to catch drivers who don’t obey the flashing red lights and the extended stop-arm.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo parent, child, or school bus staff should ever feel anxious or worried when a child is boarding or leaving a school bus,\u201d County Executive Adam Bello said in a statement. \u201cThis partnership with BusPatrol and the West Irondequoit Central School District strengthens our countywide initiative to promote school bus safety, hold dangerous drivers accountable and prevent \u00a0tragedies before they happen. I thank Superintendent Dr. Aaron Johnson and the Board of Education for prioritizing student safety, and as we recognize School Bus Safety Week, I encourage every district in Monroe County to join us in making safety and accountability a daily commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n
