{"id":132392,"date":"2026-02-13T13:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/132392\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T13:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:35:08","slug":"two-perfect-offseason-fits-for-the-new-york-giants-offense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/132392\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Perfect Offseason Fits for the New York Giants&#8217; Offense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6d\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/giants\/onsi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Giants<\/a> hired head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy this offseason.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6g\">Offenses under Harbaugh have typically been very run-heavy, while Nagy comes from the Andy Reid tree that prefers to throw the ball.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">The best assumption is that the run game will pick from the Ravens, especially with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/giants\/onsi\/news\/john-harbaugh-reportedly-adds-greg-roman-to-giants-coaching-staff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Greg Roman as a senior offensive assistant<\/a>, and that the passing game will mostly pick from the Chiefs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">That creates interesting opportunities for the Giants to finish building this offense through both free agency and the NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>OL Tyler Linderbaum<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/01kh8x2qzht2sp1zmkwq.jpg\" alt=\"Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, a potential New York Giants target, should get paid in free agency.\" title=\"Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, a potential New York Giants target, should get paid in free agency.\" width=\"3514\" height=\"1976\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"6z\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum (64) reacts after a defensive penalty against the Green Bay Packers gives the Ravens a first down on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Ravens won the game, 41-24.  | Tork Mason \/ USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"73\">Before Harbaugh got hired anywhere, there was always the connection that wherever he went, that team would likely pursue center Tyler Linderbaum.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">Linderbaum is widely considered one of the best centers in the NFL and is going to be just 26 years old when the season begins.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">Where he especially separates himself is as a run-blocker, paving the way for the Ravens to have a top-three rushing attack all four seasons he\u2019s been their center.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7c\">In pass protection, Linderbaum allowed 26 pressures, with<a href=\"https:\/\/premium.pff.com\/nfl\/positions\/2025\/REG\/offense-pass-blocking?position=C&amp;minimum=20p\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> 15 of those coming in \u201ctrue pass sets.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7f\">True pass sets are used to exclude plays with fewer than four rushers, play-action passes, screens, and throws under two seconds, a more accurate measure of how a lineman blocks in pure dropback situations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7i\">Spotrac currently lists Linderbaum as having a market-value contract worth<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nfl\/player\/market-value\/_\/id\/76879\/tyler-linderbaum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> $70.9M over four years, averaging $17.7M annually<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7l\">That deal would make Linderbaum the second-highest-paid center in the NFL, both annually and total contract value-wise, behind only Creed Humphrey.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7o\">It\u2019s a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/giants\/onsi\/big-blue-plus\/early-ny-giants-ufa-target-predicted-to-cost-a-pretty-penny\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> steep price to pay, of course, for the Giants<\/a>, but they would be paying for a massive upgrade on the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7r\">Current center John Michael Schmitz<a href=\"https:\/\/overthecap.com\/player\/john-michael-schmitz\/10881\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> will be entering a contract year in 2026<\/a>, so bringing in Linderbaum could help ease that departure, or the Giants could even look to trade Schmitz for a draft pick.<\/p>\n<p>Baylor TE Michael Trigg<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/01kh8x61jy87xeqg6s2y.jpg\" alt=\"Baylor tight end Michael Trigg is a potential NFL Draft target for the New York Giants in 2026\" title=\"Baylor tight end Michael Trigg is a potential NFL Draft target for the New York Giants in 2026\" width=\"4686\" height=\"2635\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"88\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nov 22, 2025; Tucson, Arizona, USA; Arizona Wildcats defensive back Genesis Smith (12) tackles Baylor Bears tight end Michael Trigg (1) at Casino Del Sol Stadium.   | Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-19\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8c\">Whether we want to look at offenses under Harbaugh or Nagy, tight end involvement has always been crucial.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-20\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8f\">Although Harbaugh wasn\u2019t calling plays or building the offense, he, of course, had a say in it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8i\">Nagy, as a non-playcalling offensive coordinator, had Travis Kelce, one of the best receiving tight ends in NFL history, as his tight end for the past three years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8l\">While the Giants won\u2019t be able to replicate that level of production, they could find a late-Day 2 or early-Day 3 tight end that could help in the passing game from day one.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-23\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8o\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/giants\/onsi\/new-york-giants-draft-prospect-profile-te-michael-trigg-baylor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor\u2019s Michael Trigg<\/a> is a flex-option that could step in as a rotational piece, especially on passing downs, and create a mismatch for the offense.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-24\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8r\">In 2025, Trigg finished the season with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/michael-trigg-1.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> 50 catches for 694 yards and 6 touchdowns<\/a>, finishing fourth, second, and fifth among tight ends in all of those categories, respectively.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-25\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8u\">Listed at 6\u20194\u201d and 240 pounds and bearing long arms, he\u2019s too big for most safeties to handle in one-on-one situations. He&#8217;s also a good enough athlete and route runner that linebackers should struggle to keep up with him.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-26\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8x\">Trigg\u2019s blocking technique is going to need plenty of work, but the \u201cwant to\u201d is there, and for a developmental flex tight end, that\u2019s more than we can say for most.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-27\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"90\">At Baylor in 2025, Trigg spent<a href=\"https:\/\/premium.pff.com\/ncaa\/players\/2025\/REG\/michael-trigg\/146410\/snaps-by-position\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> 64.9% of his offensive snaps in the slot and 30.6% inline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-28\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"93\">Trigg\u2019s skill set is a great fit for the Andy Reid offense that many are expecting Nagy to bring with him to the Giants. Trigg could be an inexpensive option as the second or third tight end, especially<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/giants\/onsi\/big-blue-plus\/why-pending-free-agent-te-david-njoku-makes-sense-for-the-new-york-giants\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> if the Giants bring in veteran David Njoku<\/a>, from whom Trigg could learn.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-30\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"99\">What happens next with the NY Giants?
