SYRACUSE, N.Y. \u2013\u00a0The Syracuse University women’s tennis team stayed hot at home, knocking off in-state rival Buffalo 6-1 Thursday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Orange (4-3) continued their doubles dominance, securing the point for the third match in a row. Serafima Shastova<\/a> and Monika Wojcik<\/a> made quick work of Maria Glowacka and Esmee Andresen, winning 6-0. The Orange duo handed Glowacka and Andresen their first doubles loss of the spring. Leena Bennetto<\/a> and Constance Levivier<\/a> fell to Liv Roestel and Blanca Berges at the No. 2 position, setting up a winner-take-all match at No. 3. Emma Scaldalai<\/a> and Nelly Knezkova<\/a> delivered for the Orange, claiming a 6-4 victory over Sarah Hartel and Julia Laspro to secure the point.\u00a0<\/p>\n In singles action, Knezkova was dominant at number two, going 6-3, 6-1 to knock off Maria Glowacka for the first singles point. Shastova returned to winning ways, defeating Andresen 6-4, 6-3. Scaldalai fought at the No. 5 position but could not overcome Roestel, who won 6-3, 6-4. Levivier claimed the decisive point for the Orange, defeating Sofia Zagumennova 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. Wojcik picked up a fifth point for Syracuse, narrowly edging Laspro 7-5, 7-5. In the final match of the afternoon, Bennetto and Hartel battled across three sets. Bennetto triumphed in the 10-point tiebreak, winning 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-3.\u00a0<\/p>\n Syracuse embarks on a road trip to North Carolina to face UNC and Duke next weekend.
