Nicole Malliotakis, New York City\u2019s sole congressional Republican, on Thursday filed an emergency petition with the Supreme Court, requesting a pause on an earlier State Supreme Court ruling that would require her 11th District be redrawn,  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/12\/nyregion\/redistricting-supreme-court-ny.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times reports<\/a>. A similar petition was filed the same day by Republicans on the state Board of Elections.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/brooklyneagle.com\/tag\/nicole-malliotakis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malliotakis<\/a> and other Republicans had earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/brooklyneagle.com\/364319\/republicans-appeal-decision-that-threw-out-nycs-only-gop-controlled-house-district\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sought relief<\/a> from the state Court of Appeals and the State Supreme Court\u2019s Appellate Division in the case, seeking to keep the district\u2019s borders \u2013 which currently include Staten Island and a small portion of Southern Brooklyn \u2013 intact for this year\u2019s election. Her team has argued that redrawing the district so soon before the start of election season could throw House races into chaos: Candidates begin circling ballot petitions on Feb. 24. Adjustments to the 11th District could throw a closely-watched primary contest in the abutting 10th District, between incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman and former Comptroller Brad Lander, into question as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Judge Jeffrey Pearlman <a href=\"https:\/\/brooklyneagle.com\/363181\/judge-tosses-lines-of-nycs-only-republican-house-seat-as-state-enters-redistricting-wars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruled<\/a> that the 11th District\u2019s current borders disenfranchise minority voters in northern Staten Island.
