NYPD<\/p>\n<p>The victim \u2014 who sources say was not wearing any identifiable Jewish garb \u2013 was taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center in stable condition, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The beatdown was not believed to be motivated by hate, the sources said. <\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Dovid Bashevkin, a clinical assistant professor of Jewish values at Yeshiva\u2019s Sy Syms School of Business, condemned the attack in a post on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Yeshiva University student was violently assaulted tonight by a gang of masked thugs,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DBashIdeas\/status\/2022118187920224364\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bashevkin wrote.<\/a> \u201cThis is beyond frightening for a visibly Jewish community in NYC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bashevkin said the victim \u201cwent to public school and came to YU for its Jewish life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/gang-of-masked-thugs-reportedly-attacks-yeshiva-university-student-in-nyc-subway-station\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obtained by the Jewish News Syndicate<\/a>, Yeshiva University described the attack as \u201can unbiased attempted robbery.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.75;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38483284\" width=\"443\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/yeshiva-university-student-attacked-six-121139684_ff06bd.jpg\" alt=\"The \u201cmasked thugs\u201d who allegedly attacked a Yeshiva University student on board a Manhattan train were hassling him for spare change \u2013 and the brutal attack was not believed to be a hate crime, law enforcement sources said.\" class=\"wp-image-38483284\"  \/>The student, who was not wearing any identifiable Jewish garb, was hospitalized in stable condition. X\/DBashIdeas<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is back on campus in good condition,\u201d school officials wrote. \u201cYU security is aware of the incident and is coordinating with law enforcement authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll YU students, faculty and staff are reminded to exercise caution at all times,\u201d it said. \u201cPlease remain alert to your surroundings.
