STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Spotlight Repertory Theatre will present Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine\u2019s Tony Award-winning musical \u201cInto the Woods\u201d for six performances this month at The Staten Island Playhouse at Empire Outlets.<\/p>\n
The musical weaves together familiar fairytale characters including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack, and Rapunzel, reimagining their stories while questioning the notion of \u201chappily ever after.\u201d The narrative moves beyond childhood tales to explore themes of responsibility, consequence and community.<\/p>\n
Jacques Stewart directs the production, with Meggan Herod serving as assistant director, Emily Croome as music director, and Mary Lee Aloia as producing director. <\/p>\n
The creative team has structured the show around ensemble-driven performance and musical storytelling, emphasizing Sondheim and Lapine\u2019s original score and text.<\/p>\n
\u201cInto the Woods is one of my favorite musicals,\u201d Aloia said. \u201cAnd the honest and heart this cast brings to the storytelling makes this production especially beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
The production will continue to run on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., with a matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at the venue located at 55 Richmond Terrace.<\/p>\n
