New York State Police said a vehicle-pedestrian collision was reported on Thursday, Feb. 12, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. An SUV of unknown make and model, possibly a Jeep Patriot, struck a female victim in a motorized wheelchair around 5:42 p.m. on Ampersand Drive and then fled the scene, according to police.<\/p>\n
Police said concerned citizens immediately stopped to render aid. Local fire and rescue personnel also responded, transporting the victim to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital before being transferred to University of Vermont Medical Center.<\/p>\n
She was listed in stable but critical condition, police said Friday. Her name, age, and other details were not released.<\/p>\n
Troopers said a preliminary investigation determined the hit-and-run incident involved a dark-colored SUV that was stopped near a crosswalk and not moving. The victim was traveling southbound on Ampersand Drive when the SUV began moving northbound, striking her. The vehicle failed to stop and continued northbound, according to police.<\/p>\n

State Police released photos of the vehicle in question Friday. The make, model, license plate number and driver\u2019s identity were not clear, police said.<\/p>\n
The vehicle is believed to have sustained front-end damage, specifically to the front passenger-side bumper, consistent with striking the victim\u2019s motorized wheelchair.<\/p>\n
