snow-combating notification.<\/a><\/p>\nAccording to the department, weather models predict snow totals between a coating and 1.8 inches, starting Sunday evening around 7 p.m. and continuing overnight.<\/p>\n
Staten Island and the Jamaica Bay region could see snowfall towards the higher ends of those predictions.<\/p>\n
The department will deploy more than 700 salt spreaders. Specialized bike lane spreaders are filled and ready to go when needed, and the department has hundreds of millions of pounds of salt on hand. DSNY will monitor and plan salting by using the new Bladerunner 2.0 tracking operation.<\/p>\n
Garbage collection is already suspended on Monday due to the Presidents\u2019 Day holiday, DSNY said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis winter weather is unlikely to substantially impact collection further, and residents with Monday collection should place it out Monday night for post-holiday service,\u201d the department said in a press statement. \u201cThe small number of residents who receive collection from alleyways have also been asked to place material curbside until Thursday due to ongoing snow operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s winter weather operations come as DSNY continues to melt the snow from January\u2019s winter storm. DSNY has melted more than 400 million pounds of snow at 13 melters in all 5 boroughs, according to the department.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew Yorkers should know: DSNY is working to ensure your safety. Do your part both for yourself and for the Strongest by staying off the roads during active precipitation or, if you absolutely must drive, by doing so slowly, safely and carefully,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n
According to the department, in a snow event all residents are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks. <\/p>\n
DSNY has written more than 4,000 summonses for failure to do so since the Jan. 25 storm, the department added.<\/p>\n
