STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Former President Barack Obama addressed the racist depiction of him and former First Lady Michelle Obama posted by President Donald Trump in early February. <\/p>\n

In an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen<\/a>, Obama said the following: \u201cWell, first of all, I think it\u2019s important to recognize that the majority of the American people find this behavior deeply troubling. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is true that it gets attention. It\u2019s true that it\u2019s a distraction. But as I\u2019m traveling around the country, as you\u2019re traveling around the country, you meet people, they still believe in decency, courtesy, kindness,\u201d Obama said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s this sort of clown show that\u2019s happening in social media and on television, and what is true is that there doesn\u2019t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and a sense of propriety and respect for the office, right? That\u2019s been lost,\u201d the former president explained. <\/p>\n

The racist video posted by Trump in a now-deleted Truth Social upload shows the Obama\u2019s faces superimposed on the bodies of apes. <\/p>\n

Trump refused to apologize for the video, claiming that a staffer posted the video after the president watched \u201cthe beginning of it [the video].\u201d <\/p>\n

The racist depiction of the Obama\u2019s was in the latter portion of the video \u2014 but the post was on Trump\u2019s Truth Social for about 12 hours before it was ultimately deleted. <\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t make a mistake,\u201d Trump claimed on Feb. 6.<\/a> <\/p>\n
