Englewood, NJ this Friday, February 6, 2026 evening for a concert by the Grammy-winning funk\/soul group, The Commodores.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the BergenPAC auditorium, executive director Alexander Diaz welcomes the crowd before members of The Mean Machine backup band \u2014 keyboardist Maurice Gregory, bassist Tyron Stanton, drummer \u201cScott\u201d Kay, and keyboardist\/musical director Thomas Dawson \u2014 take the stage along with The Commodores featuring vocalists Cody Orange and Brent Carter, guitarist\/vocalist Colin Orange, and founding member William \u201cWAK\u201d King on trumpet, guitar, keyboard, and vocals.<\/p>\n<p>Opening with a medley featuring the driving \u201cRight Here\u2019n Now,\u201d William King instructs, \u201cThrow your hands up!\u201d and concertgoers respond in kind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16b.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Segueing into the rhythmic \u201cSexy Lady,\u201d Colin Orange plays a distorted guitar solo and the entire group chants \u201cWild Thing\u201d as the medley morphs into the funky \u201cI Feel Sanctified\u201d where The Commodores energetically move to the groove as they sing and play.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16c.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The crowd reacts with enthusiastic cheers and applause and Brent Carter inquires, \u201cHow is everybody doing out there tonight?\u201d After announcing, \u201cThis is our first show of the year and we\u2019re gonna party tonight!\u201d he and the band slide into a smooth version of The Commodores\u2019 1977 smash, \u201cEasy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m easy\/Easy like Sunday morning,\u201d and Colin Orange renders a funky guitar solo on this R&amp;B\/soul ballad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16e.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>King tells a story about how, after The Commodores started their band as college students, they were encouraged by singer Kenny Rogers to \u201crecord a country-western song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16f.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Five-part vocals are featured on the group\u2019s 1979 country\/soul hit, \u201cSail On,\u201d before Cody Orange leads the audience in singing along on the tune\u2019s appealing \u201cSail on\/honey\/Good times never felt so good\u201d refrain under colored lights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16g.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Concertgoers hoot and holler and Colin Orange is featured playing acoustic guitar on a charming version of the ballad, \u201cOh No.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>King introduces a medley of \u201csome of the first songs we ever recorded.\u201d Kicking off with \u201cJust to Be Close to You,\u201d Brent Carter and Cody Orange trade off singing lead as the group executes dance steps and hand motions on this rhythmic 6\/8 Motown ballad.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing with the R&amp;B ballad, \u201cZoom,\u201d Carter stands center stage and soulfully sings, \u201cOh, zoom\/I\u2019d like to fly far away from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16h.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The medley concludes with the upbeat \u201cSweet Love,\u201d where Cody Orange asks, \u201cEnglewood, NJ, how\u2019s everybody feeling so far?\u201d prior to getting concertgoers on their feet, bouncing with their hands in the air, and energetically singing along on the song\u2019s \u201cOh-oh-oh-oh, sweet love\u201d chorus under kaleidoscopic lights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" movie,\u00a0Thank God It\u2019s Friday,\u00a0Colin Orange handles the lead on \u201cToo Hot Ta Trot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16j.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Toes tap and music lovers move to the groove at their seats on this up-tempo funk tune which also features William King playing trumpet as drummer \u201cScott\u201d Kay and bassist Tyron Stanton percolate underneath.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16k.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After King announces, \u201cHere\u2019s the song that put The Commodores on the map,\u201d he plays keyboards on the group\u2019s funky instrumental, \u201cMachine Gun.\u201d As the band grooves, King introduces the instrumentalists of The Mean Machine in addition to his fellow vocalists, pointing out twins Colin and Cody Orange as the sons of Commodores\u2019 founding member, Walter Orange.<\/p>\n<p>Brent Carter handles the lead on \u201cLady (You Bring Me Up)\u201d and fans sing along to this 1981 disco\/funk tune as the front men impress with their fancy footwork.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16l.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After the audience takes a moment to recognize the ensemble\u2019s \u201coriginal shining star,\u201d William King, the band steps into \u201cStill,\u201d where Cody Orange croons, \u201cLady, morning\u2019s just a moment away,\u201d on the 1979 #1 hit before impressing with a long note that elicits hoots and hollers for this appealing ballad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/spot-Feb16m.jpg\" height=\"400px;\" width=\"600px&quot;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Carter sits on a stool as he sings \u201cThree Times a Lady\u201d and the crowd joins in on the song\u2019s \u201cYou\u2019re once, twice, three times a lady\u201d refrain of this 1978 chart-topper.<\/p>\n<p>All four Commodores dance center stage on \u201cNightshift\u201d where Colin Orange and Brent Carter share the lead on this rhythmic 1985 R&amp;B\/soul hit.
