Kathy Hochul announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The announcement comes just one day before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/nyc-mayor-mamdani-backtracks-fiscal-154006074.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mayor Zohran Mamdani;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> is expected to reveal his preliminary budget, which must address a massive shortfall. Mamdani initially estimated the budget gap was around $12 billion, but recently revised his projection to around $7 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The massive sum includes funding for youth programming, sales tax receipts, public health and other priorities yet to be determined, Hochul and Mamdani said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cA strong New York City means a stronger New York State. This investment protects services and puts the city on stable financial footing,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mamdani has made clear he wants a longer-term solution from Albany: taxes on wealthy New Yorkers and corporations. The tax increase is a no-go for Hochul.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The mayor is also focused on restructuring the relationship between Albany and New York City, something state legislators pressed Mamdani on during \u201ctin cup day.\u201d Mamdani has said the city is not getting its fair share of taxes, given it\u2019s the economic engine of New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Emily Rahhal is a digital reporter who has covered New York City since 2023 after reporting in Los Angeles for years.
