The news hit commuters in early February, when Dunkin\u2019 opened in the Staten Island Ferry terminal after a long vacancy, quickly becoming a welcome stop in a space once home to a long-running<\/a>, well-loved Au Bon Pain. The Dunkin\u2019 shop operates daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and includes a convenience window that opens directly into the terminal. On Thursday\u2019s morning rush, at least eight workers were on duty, including a manager who greeted customers and personally staffed the window.<\/p>\n

Dunkin\u2019 has built a steady relationship<\/a> with the Staten Island Ferry in recent years, offering rare continuity in a system that has seen long stretches of vacant counters<\/a> and stalled concessions<\/a>. The chain first arrived at the Manhattan terminal in 2018 with mobile ordering and a full cold-brew tap setup\u2014a store the Salz Group said was a decade in the making. In December 2024, onboard concessions returned for the first time since the pandemic<\/a>, beginning with a Dunkin\u2019 on the Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis<\/a> ferryboat. Commuters embraced the comeback after nearly four years without coffee service at sea.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s to eat at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal?<\/p>\n

The St. George Ferry Terminal functions as a compact food court, with a mix of quick-service vendors and a sit-down restaurant with a full bar at River Dock Bar & Grill.<\/a> Options range from smoothies, frozen yogurt, wraps, and Jamaican patties at Ferris Wheel Caf\u00e9 to 24-hour coffee and grab-and-go items at the terminal\u2019s to-go stall. Subway offers made-to-order sandwiches, while the Statue of Liberty Deli serves fried staples around the clock. ZZ\u2019s Pizza and River Dock, run by the same management company, provide slices and drinks\u2014including beer and wine\u2014for riders on the move.<\/p>\n

But the lineup has thinned. In February 2024, Au Bon Pain abruptly closed <\/a>its long-running terminal location, ending years as a reliable stop for commuters and tourists. That departure followed others, including Dairy Queen and a caf\u00e9, leaving fewer quick-service options for riders.
