Jesse Jackson dead at 84"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson died Tuesday morning. He was 84.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson, a former presidential candidate, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, his family<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JrJesseJackson\/posts\/pfbid0EfpWKsp8g1hCgYT5EsDf6TUuXDu6V2FC4FYz8KRxYvLGFyYjSngfrqvgD4KmEhJol\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> said in a Facebook statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They said he \u201celevated the voices of the voiceless\u201d and left an \u201cindelible mark\u201d in history.<\/p>\n<p>After speaking during a press conference, the Rev. TNS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur father was a servant leader \u2014 not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world,\u201d his family said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis unwavering belief in justice, equality, and love uplifted millions, and we ask you to honor his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived by.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s cause of death hasn\u2019t been revealed. <\/p>\n<p>The renowned civil rights leader\u2019s death comes after he was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/12\/us-news\/civil-rights-activist-rev-jesse-jackson-84-hospitalized-in-chicago\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hospitalized in Chicago<\/a> last November for progressive supranuclear palsy \u2014 a rare brain disease.<\/p>\n<p>Civil Rights leader, Jesse Jackson with Dr Martin Luther King, 1966. Ben Martin\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was originally diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease; however, last April, his PSP condition was confirmed. The family appreciates all prayers at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 16, his family <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/us-news\/civil-rights-icon-the-rev-jesse-jackson-is-stable-and-not-on-life-support-kin-say\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pushed back against \u201cinaccurate media reports\u201d <\/a>that the activist was on a form of life support after he suffered a significant drop in blood pressure, saying he was still \u201cin stable condition\u201d and \u201cbreathing without the assistance of machines.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, today he called for 2,000 churches to prepare 2,000 baskets of food to prevent malnutrition during the holiday season,\u201d his son, Yusef, added in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson, known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9, had garnered a lifetime of national acclaim for his dedication to civil rights.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Jackson is honored onstage during the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on August 19, 2024. Bettmann Archive<\/p>\n<p>The reverend announced in 2017 that he had Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, he underwent gallbladder surgery and was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19. He also ended up in the hospital after <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/02\/jesse-jackson-hospitalized-after-hitting-head-in-fall-at-howard-university\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">falling and hitting his head during a visit to Howard University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t immediately clear when he was diagnosed with PSP \u2014 a rare brain disease that can affect a person\u2019s ability to walk, balance and swallow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Civil rights activist Rev.
