It\u2019s another great day to be a coffee drinker in Brooklyn, New York, as the new Yellow Sun Coffee Roasters<\/a> adds fresh roasts of rotating single-origin coffees.<\/p>\n

Co-created by a co-founder of high-end Saudi Arabian roasting company Hemi Coffee<\/a>, the brand debuted with a single, minimalist coffee shop in Bushwick last September, with bright yellow packaging and ceramics popping against wooden surfaces.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe space was designed to feel calm, warm and welcoming, using natural materials like wood and a simple, minimal layout,\u201d Yellow Sun co-founder and CEO Mohammad Wahid recently told DCN. \u201cThe bar workflow was designed for smooth and efficient service.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wahid, who moved to New York in 2023, leads roasting efforts, overseeing a 15-kilogram Loring machine at the Shared Roasting<\/a> co-roastery in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur sourcing focuses on transparent, traceable coffees with clear farm and processing details,\u201d said Wahid. \u201cWe start with a clear flavor roadmap, then source samples from trusted suppliers. We roast and cup internally before selecting coffees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Yellow<\/a><\/p>\n

At the bar, Yellow Sun\u2019s espresso is ground with a Mahlk\u00f6nig E65S GBW<\/a> and brewed through a Mavam Mach 2<\/a>. The menu centers on classic espresso-and-milk drinks that lean into chocolate and nut-forward profiles, plus the shop\u2019s signature cardamom latte. Single-origin filter offerings supported by Baratza Forte grinders lean toward more floral and fruity characters.<\/p>\n

Current Yellow Sun releases reflect a variety of post-harvest processing methods and countries of origin, including an anaerobic-natural-process coffee from Wadi Al-Ma\u2019a, Yemen, a honey-process coffee from Las Lajas in Costa Rica and a natural-process coffee from the Urga District of Guji, Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe rotate single-origin pourover coffees every two weeks,\u201d said Wahid, noting that the company also serves matcha from UnD<\/a> and pastries from Paloma<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wahid said his specialty coffee career began in 2015 in Saudi Arabia after tasting an Ethiopian single-origin that reshaped his understanding of coffee. After working in the industry for several years, Wahid co-founded Hemi Coffee, a high-end Saudi brand with multiple cafes with which he is no longer affiliated.<\/p>\n

Wahid launched Yellow Sun with business partner Khaled Sedeq, who has a professional barista background.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur next step is expansion, with plans to open additional locations while maintaining the same quality standards,\u201d Wahid said. \u201cWe\u2019re exploring Williamsburg, West Village and Park Slope.\u201d<\/p>\n
