John Piazza, 90, passed away on Jan. 25, 2026. Born on July 8, 1935, in Brooklyn, he moved to Staten Island in 1964, where he ran a small business and raised his family in New Dorp Heights. A United States Navy Veteran, John participated in Operation Deep Freeze in the 1950s, which established the first permanent U.S. research stations in Antarctica. He enjoyed classic cars, attending weekend car shows at Gateway Park, tending to his garden, and sharing stories from his younger years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Annette Piazza. Nancy D. Gentile, 93, of Staten Island, passed away on Feb. 13, 2026. Born on Dec. 31, 1932, in Brooklyn, Nancy moved to Staten Island in 1978 with her family. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1950 and pursued a secretarial career before marrying John R. Gentile Sr. on Aug. 31, 1952. A devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother, Nancy was an active member of St. Mary\u2019s Church in Brooklyn and St. Teresa\u2019s Church on Staten Island. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, gardening, and watching television sitcoms and game shows. She is survived by her sons, John Jr. and James; daughters, Nancy Patricia and ChrisAnne; grandchildren, John Rocco, Clark, and Angie; and sister, Carol Ciaffone.
