Whatever their appeal to tourists, vendors selling knockoff \u201cluxury\u201d items \u2014 Fauxlex watches, Goochi sunglasses, Birkain\u2019t handbags \u2014 are pests for most New Yorkers.<\/a><\/p>\n

They block sidewalks, harass pedestrians, peddle stolen goods and feed an air of lawlessness \u2014 and poach customers from tax- and rent-paying brick-and-mortar stores selling the real items.<\/p>\n

On Canal Street as elsewhere these scammers congregate, local business owners routinely beg the NYPD to intervene in what quickly becomes an open-air drug market and\/or nest of filth and violence.<\/p>\n

But the state\u2019s benighted \u201ccriminal-justice reforms,\u201d and the many \u201clet \u2019em loose\u201d judges and prosecutors installed by various Democratic machines make it hard for policing alone to stamp out these blights.<\/p>\n

So ICE did New York a big favor Tuesday<\/a> when agents flooded \u201cHawker\u2019s Highway,\u201d arresting nine illegal-immigrant \u201cstreet vendors.\u201d<\/p>\n

And they\u2019re not just petty crooks: These criminals, ICE reports, have rap sheets that extend to counterfeiting, forgery, trafficking of drugs, robbery and assault.<\/p>\n

Yet a mob, alerted to the raid on social media, quickly formed to \u201cconfront\u201d the agents, banging on their vehicles and following them on foot down Lafayette Street, screaming in their faces and even assaulting them.<\/p>\n

Local elected Democrats, <\/a>whose hatred of President Donald Trump (and of law and order generally) leads them to defend the worst elements of American society, stampeded to pose in front of cameras and declare themselves in favor of obstructing law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Ignoring New York City\u2019s subordinate legal position, these officials pretend that \u201csanctuary\u201d status bars the feds from enforcing the law here.<\/p>\n

Councilwoman Shahana Hanif declared, \u201cICE needs to leave New York City\u201d; her colleague Chi Oss\u00e9 posted, \u201cICE GTFO of NYC.\u201d Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso bragged, \u201cICE ain\u2019t ready for NYC.\u201d<\/p>\n

City Comptroller Brad Lander urged New Yorkers to \u201csay to ICE, \u2018We don\u2019t need you here, we don\u2019t want you here,\u2019\u201d and to \u201cpatronize a street vendor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The taxpayer-funded New York Immigration Coalition, amplifying hard-left rhetoric, claimed \u201cbetween 15-40 people were kidnapped on Canal Street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huh? Arrest isn\u2019t kidnapping; it\u2019s law enforcement not law-breaking; this demented, incendiary<\/a> framing encourages violence against federal cops.<\/p>\n

Illegal migrants selling fake designer goods from blankets are not neighborly types, nor \u201cdoing jobs Americans don\u2019t want.\u201d<\/p>\n

They\u2019re criminals who\u2019ve gravitated to low scams (and associated sleaze); complete social parasites.<\/p>\n

ICE is here, lefties.
