CHINATOWN, Manhattan (WABC) — The 28th annual Lunar New Year Parade and Festival, celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse in Chinatown, takes place on Sunday, March 1, with streaming coverage on ABC 7 New York.<\/p>\n

You will be able to watch the parade live on abc7NY.com<\/a>, our mobile and connected TV apps, and social media platforms on Sunday, March 1 starting at 1:00 p.m. <\/p>\n The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. and marches through the main streets of Chinatown, starting at Mott St and Canal St, moving to Chatham Square, East Broadway, and ending near Forsyth and Grand Streets.<\/p>\n The colorful celebration features floats, bands and performers representing different communities and cultures.<\/p>\n Festival booths will be set up along Bayard Street between Mott Street and Mulberry Street starting at 11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n The event, organized by Better Chinatown USA, marks the culmination of celebrations that kicked off on February 17 with a firecracker festival commemorating the first day of the Year of the Fire Horse<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Lunar New Year is a time-honored family holiday to welcome good fortune and a long, healthy life, and also make lots of noise to scare away a legendary sea monster that would bring the opposite of that.<\/p>\n The horse is the seventh of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals.<\/p>\n Every year, each animal is associated with one of the five elements: metal, water, wood, fire and earth, with the intersection meant to determine the qualities of someone born in that year.<\/p>\n This year is known as the fire horse because it coincides with the fire element, which is expected to bring “a cycle of heightened passion, boldness, energy, and courage,” according to the Asia Society.<\/p>\n Learn more about Lunar New Year, the Year of the Fire Horse, here<\/a>.<\/p>\n WABC-TV is a proud sponsor of the NYC Lunar Year Parade and Festival.
