That momentous call was met with spiritual serenity, he recalled.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was at complete peace, believe it or not. I was at complete peace, saying, \u2018If this is what God wants of me, if this is what the Church is asking of me, just do it. I say Yes, and I do it with an open heart.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The conversation turned to his being \u201ca strong Cubs fan\u201d \u2014 and then Melvin presented him with a New York Yankees hat, and a bit of good-natured joking ensued.<\/p>\n
Archbishop Hicks isn\u2019t shying away from sports in his new city, having attended the St. John\u2019s-Xavier basketball game last week at Madison Square Garden; it was his first time at \u201cThe Garden.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat struck me was that, this debate about the Cubs, every usher, every vendor, everyone I met, they\u2019re welcoming.
