The title, Magic Grasshopper, refers to the English translation of the Nahuatl word Chapultepec (“hill of the grasshopper”), evoking a mythical vehicle able to transcend the constraints of space and time.

The location of the artwork is no coincidence in this era of increasingly alienating migration policies. It’s situated in one of the most iconic and heavily trafficked public spaces in the world within New York City, a historically designated sanctuary city for migrants. It’s excessive and grand, but also incisive and delicate. I hope that everyone who encounters it leaves with a feeling of joy, recognition or even fantasy.”

In a city filled with buses, subways, cabs and pedicabs, there’s a new kind of transit in town—but you…

[35
1149,8944,2530,1733,1829,2520,2526,2522,2523,2524,5851,2525,1831,2527,75,84,83,4305,9,24,8945,63
post-13668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-manhattan","tag-art","tag-categories-art","tag-family-kids-good-for-kids","tag-good-for-good-for-going-in-a-group","tag-good-for-good-for-going-solo","tag-good-for-good-for-going-with-friends","tag-good-for-good-for-locals","tag-good-for-good-for-taking-parents","tag-good-for-good-for-tourists","tag-good-for-vibe-beautiful","tag-good-for-vibe-ethical","tag-good-for-vibe-outdoors","tag-good-for-vibe-quirky","tag-holidays-fall","tag-manhattan","tag-manhattan-headlines","tag-manhattan-news","tag-more-free","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-news-art","tag-nyc
["GET
