MANHATTAN — Kids are on the hunt for tiny plastic ducks hiding in so-called “duck libraries” throughout New York City.<\/p>\n
An anonymous person started the trend, then a dog walker continued their mission to spread joy through a “take a duck, leave a duck” policy.<\/p>\n
JJ Cerillo is that dog walker, and you can think of her as the “keeper of the ducks.”<\/p>\n
“I’m here to give them ducks because I am the duck librarian,” Cerillo said.<\/p>\n
It’s a very prominent position, overseeing and restocking metal boxes. Inside, you’ll find a load of ducks.<\/p>\n
Cerillo says this all started when she crossed paths with a stranger.<\/p>\n
“I saw him once place an object on one of the railings, and I looked to see what it was and it was a duck,” Cerillo said.<\/p>\n
She asked the mystery man if she could do the same, and he approved.<\/p>\n
But it didn’t stop there. The still anonymous giver was at it again and put up the very first duck library.<\/p>\n
Cerillo spotted a group of kids run up to the box mounted on a pole in Chelsea.<\/p>\n
“There was a whole crowd of kids around it and it just made my day, the joy it brought me, it was bringing them,” Cerillo said.<\/p>\n
