{"id":137532,"date":"2026-02-18T16:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T16:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/137532\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T16:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T16:33:07","slug":"staten-island-fire-downed-wires-spark-blaze-on-merrill-avenue-in-graniteville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/137532\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island fire: Downed wires spark blaze on Merrill Avenue in Graniteville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LX6H75AXSNGKLDT2M337FYTSKM\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The FDNY extinguished a small fire linked to a transformer fire and downed wire in Graniteville on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MHB3LIZBURAELOKX6PUB4ORB3M\">A report of a transformer fire was made at 10:02 a.m. at 42 Merrill Ave. between Hillman Avenue and Danny Court, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY and EMS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZOPNTRMLKJEXFFTMNDOXNCPJ4Q\">A small fire burned briefly on the asphalt near the curb where part of a wire landed on Merrill. The avenue was blocked to traffic during the emergency response. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MVWXTZQPTFEH7CQNBA4WCXJX64\">The NYPD and Con Edison also responded to the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6K7EOL4JUNDXJI2AG7Q4BDWKTU\">A utility pole was leaning toward a fence and a wire was hanging down from the pole.
