STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 In the months following what prosecutors described as a violent run-in with police<\/a>, Daquan Sidbury, 34, has begun to turn things around, his attorney claimed recently in state Supreme Court, St. George. <\/p>\n

During a scheduled court appearance last week, defense attorney Michael Cirigliano requested the court lower the bail amount a second time, after reeling off nearly a dozen certificates of achievement his client has received on Rikers Island.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s still too high for the family to make,\u201d said Cirigliano, who referenced Sidbury\u2019s family seated in the gallery. He suggested his client could be placed on home detention with an ankle monitor. <\/p>\n

The defense\u2019s proposal didn\u2019t sit well with prosecutors, who noted Sidbury\u2019s prior, violent felony conviction and multiple arrests. <\/p>\n

Justice Alexander B. Jeong sided with prosecutors, before adjourning the case to March 18 for an evidentiary hearing. <\/p>\n

Jeong suggested the defense might consider submitting the same request pending the outcome of the hearing. <\/p>\n

Sidbury, of Van Pelt Avenue in Mariners Harbor, was arrested on the evening of Aug. 21, 2025, after he was accused of displaying a .380-caliber handgun near Castleton and Bement avenues in West Brighton, according to a criminal complaint. <\/p>\n

Police caught up with the defendant soon after near Bay Street and Slosson Terrace in Tompkinsville. They recovered the firearm with the help of a child who spotted it and called 911, sources said at the time. <\/p>\n

Sidbury, who is listed in jail records at 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, resisted arrest and had to be carried by officers to a police car, the complaint continued. <\/p>\n

He then refused to exit the vehicle at the 120th Precinct stationhouse in St. George and had to be carried into the building, where he damaged a picture frame with his head, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Officers who searched the defendant allege they found a small amount of cocaine on his person. <\/p>\n

Defense makes second bail request<\/p>\n

In September, Jeong set bail for the defendant at $300,000 bond or $150,000 cash, court records show. <\/p>\n

In December, the court lowered that amount to $250,000 bond or $150,000 cash after hearing arguments from the defense. <\/p>\n

Last week, Cirigliano requested that it be lowered again to $125,000 bond and $75,000 cash. <\/p>\n
