The Gateway Development Commission says that it has received the full $205 million in reimbursement funds owed for the Hudson River rail tunnel project.<\/p>\n
About 1,000 workers were furloughed earlier this month when the Trump administration cut off the funding.<\/p>\n
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul sued the administration for the funding and won.<\/p>\n
The commission says that letters were expected to be sent to contractors on Wednesday. Construction activities will resume next week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe took [Trump] to court because I care deeply about jobs and the economy, even if the federal government doesn\u2019t seem to. So, I took him to court: we won. He fought it again: we won. We have seen the funds released and he continues to remain in court \u2013 but we\u2019re just seeing again and again that what he\u2019s doing is illegal,\u201d Sherrill said during a media availability.<\/p>\n
Hochul said the funding is a \u201cmajor win for workers and commuters.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll keep fighting to ensure the federal government meets its commitments,\u201d she wrote on X.<\/p>\n
Trump slammed the Gateway project on Monday by calling it a \u201cboondoggle.\u201d He claimed that it will cost billions of dollars more than projected.<\/p>\n
