Nearly every\u00a0restaurant that opens in New York\u00a0City\u00a0can be described as a\u00a0passion\u00a0project.\u00a0You\u00a0have to\u00a0be driven by\u00a0a certain level of passion to even conceive of opening\u00a0in one of the world\u2019s most\u00a0competitive\u00a0markets, so it makes sense that those who try\u00a0their luck\u00a0have\u00a0this\u00a0quality\u00a0in common.<\/p>\n
Even so, it\u2019s hard not to describe Dahla<\/a>, which opened on Feb. 10, as a passion project in its own right. The team, a group of six friends who\u2019ve worked together in numerous hospitality settings, can\u2019t restrain their excitement, when talking about the restaurant. Dahla is a dream come true for owners Nina Dansunthia, Leighton Vignola, Pita Napitar, Jom Vasupol, PK Pakapol, and Kop Suppanat (929 LIC, La Dong).<\/p>\n \u201cTogether, these dishes show how we approach Thai food \u2014 rooted in tradition, but presented in a way that feels personal and modern,\u201d says Napitar. \u201cWe just needed to find someone that brought the place we wanted together, and we found chef Pat [Pitipong Bowornneeranart, formerly of The Nuaa Table<\/a>].
