NEW YORK, NY \u2014 Timbale Terrace, a mixed-use development in East Harlem, will undergo development to build 341 affordable homes and a new community arts center. <\/p>\n
Of the 341 units, 97 homes are reserved for formerly homeless New Yorkers through the NYC 15\/15 program. This includes 30 units for young people aging out of foster care. <\/p>\n
This development will replace a former NYPD parking lot, and parking space will be allocated on the new premises. <\/p>\n
The project was identified through the East Harlem Neighborhood Rezoning plan, which was approved in 2017.<\/p>\n
On-site services focusing on health, education and employment will be provided by Lantern Organization.<\/p>\n
The development will also house the new Casa Belong\u00f3 Music and Arts Center. This cultural space, over 20,000 square feet, will offer music education, performances and community programming. It will serve as a permanent home for Belong\u00f3 and a cultural anchor in East Harlem.<\/p>\n
“Timbale Terrace is a blueprint for what is possible in addressing our city\u2019s affordability crisis,” New York City Comptroller Mark Levine said. <\/p>\n
The City\u2019s Department of Housing Preservation and Development released a request for proposals for the site in 2019. Mega Development LLC and Lantern Organization were designated in 2021, with Belong\u00f3 as a cultural partner.
