STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Less than a year after a $3.5 million renovation was completed, a Staten Island playground is undergoing yet another revamp \u2014 and borough residents are invited to provide input on the project.<\/p>\n

The Dongan Playground<\/a>, which shares a city block with PS 52, is located on Mason Avenue, between Buel Avenue and Dongan Hills Avenue, in Dongan Hills. <\/p>\n

New equipment was added with play areas designed for children 2 to 5 years old, and 5 to 12 years old. The project also included new pavement, safety surfaces, plantings, seating benches, and a drinking fountain\/bottle filler attached to the public restroom.<\/p>\n

It was reconstructed thanks to a $3.5 million capital project funded by the New York City Council and was later unveiled in April 2025.<\/a> <\/p>\n

However, another portion of the playground is set to be reconstructed thanks to another $3.3 million project \u2014 this time, funded by Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella. <\/p>\n

\u201cCommunity input is essential to all our capital projects, and we\u2019re calling on Staten Islanders to share their feedback for the latest renovation work planned for Dongan Playground, an important recreation site for children from PS 52 and the surrounding neighborhood. By creating the highest quality recreational spaces, we are making a more livable city and bringing communities together,\u201d NYC Parks Staten Island Borough Commissioner Joseph Homsey said. <\/p>\n

This new capital project will conclude the overall renovations made to Dongan Playground by renovating the stretch of playground that houses both basketball courts and handball courts. <\/p>\n

A new paved versatile play area, more bench seating, security lighting, and a landscaping redesign are also included in this new capital project. <\/p>\n
