Queen Elizabeth<\/a> may have been instrumental in the circumstances leading up to the arrest<\/a> of former Prince Andrew<\/a>. When he left the Royal Navy, she appointed him a trade envoy, a job he held from 2001 to 2011.<\/p>\n

Despite the Queen\u2019s approval of Andrew\u2019s new job, royal author Robert Jobson believes King Charles<\/a> wasn\u2019t in favor it. At that time, the Prince of Wales didn\u2019t think his younger brother \u201cwas qualified\u201d for the job. \u201cWith [Andrew] just out of the Navy, he should learn the job first,\u201d Jobson said. \u201cBut [Charles] was ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because he was the queen\u2019s alleged \u201cfavorite son,\u201d she \u201cindulged him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Was the Trade Envoy job ex-Prince Andrew\u2019s downfall?<\/p>\n

While he was serving as a U.K. trade envoy, Andrew reportedly shared confidential information with his friend Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>. As a result, he\u2019s now in police custody while officers investigate allegations of misconduct. His arrest amid fears he would \u201cflee\u201d<\/a> makes Andrew the first British royal in modern history to be arrested.<\/p>\n

When Andrew was appointed, the queen \u201cwas sharp as a tack,\u201d Jobson told People<\/a>. \u201cShe was surrounded by people whose job it was to protect her, including a prime minister who appointed him.\u201d<\/p>\n

British politician Peter Mandelson reportedly pushed for Andrew to get the trade envoy job. Ironically, the Metropolitan Police are also investigating Mandelson for leaking confidential information to Epstein in 2009.<\/p>\n

At the time, Mandelson had resigned from politics, but still had PM Blair\u2019s ear. \u201cBlair overruled the principal opponent of the plan \u2014 none other than Andrew\u2019s big brother [Charles].\u201d <\/p>\n

Opponents to Andrew\u2019s appointment \u201csuspected [he] would use the post as an excuse to cultivate friendships with the wealthy, chase women and play golf,\u201d the screenshot continued. \u201cIt would certainly be interesting to see the notes revealing why Blair ignored His Majesty\u2019s sage advice at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
