STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 If you or your loved one had health insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield, you could be getting money. <\/p>\n
A judge approved a settlement figure amounting to $2.67 billion after the company was sued in an antitrust class action lawsuit from October 2020. <\/p>\n
Of that figure, $1.9 billion will go to the complainants who filed claims against Blue Cross Blue Shield. The other $700 million will be given to the attorneys who represented the class. <\/p>\n
The lawsuit\u2019s representatives accused the company of violating \u201cantitrust laws by agreeing not to compete with each other and to limit competition between them in the sale of health insurance and health insurance administration services,\u201d according to NBC New York.<\/a> <\/p>\n The company denied the accusation.<\/p>\n A judge has not ruled \u201cwho is right or wrong,\u201d NBC reported, but instead of moving into additional litigation, the case was settled. <\/p>\n The settlement is divvied into two categories: damages and injunctive.<\/p>\n In order to have qualified for reimbursement from the settlement, you must have been insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield anywhere from February 2008 to October 2020. <\/p>\n
