Savetsky said he had concerns but kept them to himself due to the culture inside upper-echelon medical programs like NYU Langone Health, which discouraged dissenting opinions.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re at the number one plastic surgery program, you\u2019re just grateful to be there. There\u2019s no room to speak up. You\u2019re a soldier,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou work so hard to get there\u2026 you don\u2019t want to make waves.\u201d<\/p>\n

The surgeon also lamented the pressure the medical establishment applies to parents of kids who question their gender \u2014 often dangling suicide as a possible outcome if the parents don\u2019t approve transgender treatments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can only imagine what the parents were going through. I mean, they\u2019re told that their child is going to kill themselves if they don\u2019t have these surgeries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re pressured, and what are you supposed to do? You\u2019ve dropped everything to do the right thing for your child, and I think that, unfortunately, there was a lot of financial motivation with these institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
An NYU Langone spokesperson declined to comment on Savetsky\u2019s\u00a0comments, reiterating the hospital\u2019s statement about stopping its trans treatments for kids earlier this week.<\/p>\n
