{"id":140434,"date":"2026-02-20T21:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T21:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/140434\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T21:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T21:18:10","slug":"gunman-accused-of-fatally-shooting-man-during-nyc-subway-station-clash-gives-up-after-9-days-on-the-run-cops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/140434\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunman accused of fatally shooting man during NYC subway station clash gives up after 9 days on the run: cops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The gunman accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/10\/us-news\/man-shot-dead-on-nyc-subway-platform-after-dispute-cops\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fatally shooting a man <\/a>during a heated Bronx subway station clash \u2013 marking the first transit murder of the year \u2013 surrendered to cops after nine days on the lam, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alberto Frias, 27, turned himself in at the 44th Precinct station house Thursday and now faces a second-degree murder charge for allegedly blasting Adrian Dawodu in the upper right thigh on the southbound platform of the 170th Street B and D subway station Feb. 10, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Frias, who also faces manslaughter and weapon possession charges, was ordered held without bail during his arraignment hours later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alberto Frias, 27, turned himself in for allegedly shooting and killing Adrian Dawodu in the upper right thigh on the southbound platform of the 170th Street B and D subway station Feb. 10, police said. GASTON for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>The deadly melee erupted when Dawodu \u2013 a known \u201cemotionally disturbed person\u201d \u2013 was \u201cpacing back and forth\u201d on the platform and ultimately came to blows with Frias, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey finally confront each other and they square off to fight,\u201d Kenny said. \u201cA fist fight breaks out, but as the guy comes off the bench, our eventual shooter pulls out the pistol and displays it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the victim seemed unfazed by the weapon, the chief added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe goes right for [Frias],\u201d he said. \u201cHe starts throwing lefts, and he\u2019s winning. He\u2019s winning the fight. Our victim is winning the fight. He almost throws our guy onto the platform, our victim here starts swinging, and he\u2019s getting the better of the victim.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dawodu (pictured) was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he died of a gunshot wound to his right upper thigh that pierced his femoral artery.<br \/>\n Facebook\/adrian.dawodu<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fight extends all the way down the platform, probably about like 25 feet,\u201d the chief added. \u201cThey come together, and this is where our victim gets shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dawodu was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he bled to death of a gunshot wound to his right upper thigh that pierced his femoral artery.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Frias frantically ran back to his apartment, where he changed his clothes and met up with his girlfriend and another relative who ordered him a Lyft, the chief said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But in his frenzy, a shell casing apparently fell out of his clothes and was left behind in his apartment, Kenny added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dawodu was \u201cpacing back and forth\u201d on the platform and ultimately came to blows with Frias, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Frias was ordered held without bail and will reappear in court Tuesday.
