The National Weather Service (NWS) Mount Holly issued Blizzard Warnings at 03:27 EST on February 21 for Inland Sussex and Delaware Beaches in Delaware and for multiple counties in southern and coastal New Jersey. <\/p>\n

The NWS New York issued additional Blizzard Warnings at 02:44 EST the same day for portions of southern Connecticut and southeastern New York, including New York City.<\/p>\n

The warnings are associated with a strengthening low-pressure system forecast<\/a> to track from the Great Lakes toward the Mid-Atlantic coast late February 22, intensifying offshore and producing heavy snow and strong northeasterly winds across the region.<\/p>\n

In Delaware\u2019s Inland Sussex and Delaware Beaches, including Georgetown and Rehoboth Beach, blizzard conditions are forecast from 13:00 EST on February 22 to 18:00 EST on February 23.<\/p>\n

Snow accumulations of 15\u201330 cm (6\u201312 inches) are expected, with wind gusts up to 90 km\/h (55 mph). Snowfall rates may exceed 5 cm (2 inches) per hour, with locally higher totals and significant drifting possible.<\/p>\n

Across eastern and western Monmouth, Ocean, Coastal Ocean, and southeastern Burlington counties in New Jersey, blizzard conditions are forecast from 10:00 EST on February 22 to 18:00 EST on February 23. <\/p>\n

Snow accumulations of 30\u201350 cm (12\u201320 inches) are expected, with wind gusts up to 90 km\/h (55 mph). Snowfall rates may exceed 5 cm per hour (2 inches per hour), leading to rapid accumulation and reduced visibility.<\/p>\n

For Atlantic, Cape May, Atlantic Coastal Cape May, and Coastal Atlantic counties in New Jersey, including Atlantic City and Ocean City, blizzard conditions are forecast from 13:00 EST on February 22 to 18:00 EST on February 23. <\/p>\n

Snow accumulations of 25\u201345 cm (10\u201318 inches) are expected, with gusts up to 90 km\/h (55 mph) and significant blowing and drifting snow.<\/p>\n

The NWS New York office placed Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London counties in Connecticut, along with Southern Westchester County, the five boroughs of New York City, and parts of Suffolk and Nassau counties, under a Blizzard Warning from 06:00 EST on February 22 to 18:00 EST on February 23. <\/p>\n

Snow accumulations of 33\u201345 cm (13\u201318 inches) are forecast, with wind gusts up to 90 km\/h (55 mph). Visibilities may drop below 0.4 km (0.25 miles) due to falling and blowing snow, producing whiteout conditions.<\/p>\n

The strongest winds and most severe blizzard conditions are forecast from Sunday night into Monday. Hazardous conditions are expected to impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds combined with heavy snow loading may bring down tree branches and power lines, potentially resulting in sporadic power outages.<\/p>\n

The NWS advised that travel should be restricted to emergencies only. A Blizzard Warning indicates that severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring, with falling and blowing snow and strong winds likely to produce whiteout conditions and make travel extremely dangerous. Motorists who must travel are advised to carry a winter survival kit and remain with their vehicle if stranded.<\/p>\n
