STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City could receive even more snow than it did from Winter Storm Fern<\/a> at the end of January.<\/p>\n

In anticipation of significant accumulation and powerful wind gusts Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the city. <\/p>\n

The last time a blizzard warning was issued for the city was in 2017, according to Fox Weather<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As of Saturday morning, the weather service forecasts that the city will receive upward of 15 inches of snow. There is a 10% chance snowfall exceeds 24 inches on Staten Island and a 90% chance the borough gets at least an inch of accumulation.<\/p>\n

Residents should prepare for the worst of the storm late Sunday night, when snowfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour. The weather service believes the heaviest snow will come down from 7 p.m. Sunday through about 12 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n

The snow is expected to develop Sunday morning and afternoon, possibly mixing with rain at the onset before tapering off late Monday morning into Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Compounding the wintry weather will be winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-55 mph Sunday night, the weather service said. Winds are forecast to decrease Monday afternoon into evening.<\/p>\n

Minor to moderate coastal flooding is also possible Sunday night into Monday morning with the high tide, the weather service explained.<\/p>\n

The blizzard warning will go into effect at 6 a.m. Sunday and remain in place until about 6 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n

Under these blizzard conditions, visibility may drop below 1\/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow, the weather service said.<\/p>\n

Whiteout conditions are possible on roadways and could make for life-threatening travel.<\/p>\n
