Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday updated New Yorkers on preparations for a potential blizzard, speaking from the salt shed in Manhattan.<\/p>\n
The city is anticipating up to 20 inches of snowfall, and Mamdani warned that Monday\u2019s commute will be hazardous with reduced visibility. He encouraged residents to stay inside and off the roads.<\/p>\n
Mamdani did not announce a final decision on NYC public school closures; that announcement is expected Sunday at noon.<\/p>\n
The city will be under a Code Blue starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Officials said 18 warming buses, 11 hospital warming spaces and multiple schools will be available as safe spaces.<\/p>\n
As part of storm preparations, 700 salters are on standby, and plows will be deployed once 2 inches of snow accumulate. The Department of Sanitation will have 2,600 workers on duty during the storm.<\/p>\n
Mamdani said the city is taking extra precautions compared to the last storm, including preparing mechanical snow\u2011clearing equipment, expanding tracking and prioritizing bus stops and pedestrian ramps, and increasing attention to fire hydrants and crosswalks.<\/p>\n
DSNY will deploy more than 1,000 emergency snow shovelers starting Sunday night. Alternate\u2011side parking will be suspended Monday.<\/p>\n
MTA CEO Janno Lieber said express trains will run local on Monday.
