{"id":141283,"date":"2026-02-21T22:01:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T22:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/141283\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T22:01:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T22:01:28","slug":"womens-basketball-cruises-to-a-62-51-win-over-queens-in-final-home-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/141283\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Basketball Cruises To a 62-51 Win Over Queens In Final Home Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.\u00a0\u2013 North Florida Women&#8217;s Basketball cruised to a 62-51 win over Queens in its final home contest of the season in UNF Arena Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Redshirt sophomore guard <a href=\"https:\/\/unfospreys.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/alexa-washington\/14376\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14376\" target=\"_blank\">Alexa Washington<\/a> became the first Osprey to record a double-double this season with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals on 7-11 from the field in 36 minutes. She has registered at least 10 points in eight ASUN contests this season and in 17 career games.<\/p>\n<p>With the score tied at 4-4 at the 5:59 mark of the first quarter, UNF\u00a0would close out the quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 15-7 lead into the second quarter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Queens would open the second quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 16-15 lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the Ospreys answered back with a 12-0 scoring run of their own to regain the lead, holding their visitors scoreless from the 6:25 mark of the second quarter to the 0:04 mark of the second quarter (6:21). North Florida would take a 27-18 lead into the half.<\/p>\n<p>Junior guard <a href=\"https:\/\/unfospreys.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/alonya-waldon\/14381\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14381\" target=\"_blank\">Alonya Waldon<\/a> led all scorers with 12 points on 5-8 from the field and 2-2 from three during the first half of action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She would finish with a team-leading 15 points. Her ninth ASUN game, 14th game this season, and 25th career game in double figures.<\/p>\n<p>North Florida continued to build upon its lead taking a 35-22 lead to force a Queens timeout at the 5:07 mark of the third quarter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/unfospreys.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jamisyn-stinson\/14374\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14374\" target=\"_blank\">Jamisyn Stinson<\/a> three would give UNF a 17-point lead, 42-25. The Ospreys would take a 44-30 lead into the fourth and maintain a double-digit lead thought out the entire fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>After back-to-back Stinson threes and a layup from Washington, the Ospreys would take a 19-point lead at the 2:14 mark of the fourth quarter, their largest lead of the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stinson would tack on 11 points on 3-8 from three in 20 minutes. She has fired in at least 10 points in nine of the last 11 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Junor guard <a href=\"https:\/\/unfospreys.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/elle-blatchford\/14384\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14384\" target=\"_blank\">Elle Blatchford<\/a> was the fourth Osprey in double-figures with 11 points on 4-5 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line in 21 minutes. For Blatchford, it&#8217;s her 10th game this season with 10 or more points.<\/p>\n<p>North Florida out rebounded Queens 44-32 highlighted by a career-high 12 rebounds from junior guard\/forward <a href=\"https:\/\/unfospreys.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/karyzma-pierre\/14385\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14385\" target=\"_blank\">Karyzma Pierre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ospreys outscored the Royals in paint points, 44-28, second chance points, 12-6, fast break points, 24-19 and bench points, 16-4.<\/p>\n<p>North Florida will hit the road for a rematch with FGCU in Alico Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
