{"id":141443,"date":"2026-02-22T01:48:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T01:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/141443\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T01:48:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T01:48:09","slug":"mta-nj-transit-changes-during-major-east-coast-blizzard-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/141443\/","title":{"rendered":"MTA, NJ Transit changes during major East Coast blizzard \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tri-state area (and beyond) is preparing for a monstrous blizzard to bear down on the region only weeks after the last major storm made a mess of our roads. <\/p>\n<p>Travel is expected to become difficult if not downright unsafe for many come Monday morning, when millions could wake up to more than a foot of snow outside their homes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/weather\/weather-stories\/blizard-warning-nyc-nj-meaning-how-much-snow\/6466190\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Find the latest forecast details here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Officials in New York and New Jersey were already cautioning people Saturday to take the necessary precautions and stay home to when and if possible. <\/p>\n<p>For those who need to get around, here&#8217;s the latest in service changes and highway disruptions:<\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK<\/p>\n<p>New York City issued a hazardous travel advisory ahead of Sunday&#8217;s snowfall. Alternate side parking has already been suspended for Monday. <\/p>\n<p>NYC buses and subway<\/p>\n<p>New York City Transit informed customers that, to accommodate winter weather operations, most subway service will operate locally. Road and infrastructure renovation projects scheduled for the weekend are being suspended in order for teams to focus on storm response. <\/p>\n<p>Bus service will be adjusted according to city road conditions and service disruptions can be expected on certain routes. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A winter storm is expected in our area tomorrow into Monday. Our crews are ready to respond, but there may be changes to subway, rail, and bus service. By the evening, riders should prepare for the possibility that the railroad may modify Sunday schedules on the Babylon, Port Washington Huntington Branches, West Hempstead and Oyster Bay Branches.<\/p>\n<p>Crews will monitor conditions for Monday to determine what service can be offered. <\/p>\n<p>Metro-North Railroad<\/p>\n<p>Operations Sunday will operate are normal. <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, however, trains will run on an hourly, weekend schedule. Hudson Rail Link connecting bus service will be suspended. Shuttle buses that have been replacing the Haverstraw-Ossining ferry due to ice on the river will also be suspended.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, during a press conference about the expected winter storm that is headed to the tri-state area, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a hazardous travel advisory for Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n<p>MTA Bridges and Tunnels<\/p>\n<p>From 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, until 10 a.m. on Monday, February 23, the MTA&#8217;s Department of Bridges and Tunnels will prohibit the use of empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks on the following bridges:<\/p>\n<p>Bronx-Whitestone Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Cross-Bay Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Henry Hudson Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Marine Parkway Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Robert F. Kennedy Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Throgs Neck Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge<\/p>\n<p>Access-A-Ride<\/p>\n<p>The Access-A-Ride paratransit service will continue to operate 24\/7. The Paratransit Command Center will be monitoring the storm to identify and respond to any issues with customers or during the day of service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.info\/agency\/new-york-city-transit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">For the latest information from MTA and NYC Transit, including service and schedule information, click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NEW JERSEY<\/p>\n<p>NJ Transit<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.njtransit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Customers are urged to travel only if absolutely necessary during adverse weather conditions. If traveling, NJ Transit<\/a>\u00a0customers are advised\u00a0to exercise extra caution near bus stops, stations, and facilities, as the ground may be slippery.
