As New York City braces for a major winter storm, the city is recruiting emergency snow shovelers — and requiring photo identification as part of the registration process.

According to the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY), individuals seeking to work as “Emergency Snow Shovelers” must present “two small photos (1-1/2 inch square),” “two original forms of ID, plus copies,” and a Social Security card to register.

The temporary workers are hired on a per diem basis to clear snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and other public areas after heavy snowfall. Pay starts at $19.14 per hour and increases to $28.71 per hour after the first 40 hours worked in a week.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, eligible to work in the United States, and able to perform heavy physical labor.

Photo ID Required For Snow Removal Work

The identification requirements are listed publicly on the DSNY website as part of the official registration process. Workers must provide original documentation to verify eligibility and process payroll.

The city describes the program as an opportunity to “Get paid to help keep New Yorkers safe after winter storms.”

New York does not generally require registered voters to show photo identification at the polls. According to the New York City Board of Elections, “Registered voters do not need to show ID to vote, unless they did not provide identification with their registration.”

First-time voters who did not provide identification when registering may be required to present ID, or they may cast an affidavit ballot.

National Pushback On Voter ID

Democratic lawmakers at the state and federal levels have frequently opposed stricter voter ID requirements, arguing such measures could create barriers for eligible voters.

Meanwhile, Congressional Republicans are advancing the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship and photo identification for federal elections.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express in Polls Show 84% American Support For Photo ID Voting—Trump Urges Congress To Act, multiple national surveys show broad bipartisan support for requiring government-issued photo ID to vote.

A Pew Research Center survey cited by the White House found that 83% of Americans favor photo ID requirements, including majorities of Republicans, independents, and Democrats.

While New York City requires photo identification for temporary municipal snow removal work, most registered voters in New York are not required to present government-issued photo ID at the polls.

As New York City braces for a major winter storm, the city is recruiting emergency snow shovelers —…

[8
59648,59644,59645,9,24,56,63,65,64,59646,59643,49062,29568,59647
post-141471","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york-city","tag-eligible-voters","tag-id-requirements","tag-identification-requirements","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-ny","tag-nyc","tag-nyc-headlines","tag-nyc-news","tag-photo-id","tag-photo-identification","tag-snow-shovelers","tag-winter-storm","tag-winter-storms
["GET
