New York Governor Kathy Hochul is suspending state liquor laws so bars can open early to broadcast the Olympic men\u2019s gold medal hockey game between the United States and Canada \u2014 but not in New York City. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have directed the State Liquor Authority to suspend enforcement with respect to alcohol service hours tomorrow between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.,\u201d Hochul said in a press release. <\/p>\n

However, Hochul goes on to specify that the order applies only to areas of New York that are not under a state of emergency because of the coming blizzard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hochul declared a state of emergency in over 20 southern New York counties Saturday, including the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will apply only in areas not under a State of Emergency, as our top priority remains keeping people in communities impacted by the blizzard safe and off the roads,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

The men\u2019s US and Canadian hockey teams are set to face off<\/a> on the ice Sunday at 8:10 am Eastern, and the game will be broadcast on NBC.<\/p>\n

The governor said she was easing enforcement on bars and restaurants \u201cso U.S. hockey fans can gather to watch the Olympic gold medal game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Americans slid into the Gold Medal match after decisively beating Slovakia in the semifinals Friday.<\/p>\n

The US men\u2019s team is going for their first hockey Gold<\/a> since the \u201cMiracle on Ice,\u201d where the US beat the Soviet Union at the 1980 winter games in Lake Placid. <\/p>\n

\u201cI still remember watching the 1980 game as a college student at Syracuse University, working in a pizza shop. The whole place stopped and watched together. I hope a new generation of New Yorkers gets that same moment tomorrow. Go U.S.A.!\u201d Hochul said. <\/p>\n

Canada is skating into the finals with multiple high-profile injuries, including captain Sidney Crosby<\/a> and to defenseman Josh Morrissey.<\/p>\n

However, Canada team coach Jon Cooper has refused to rule out either of them playing in the Olympic finals, telling NHL.com \u201cwe\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI watched [Crosby] skate today. I haven\u2019t spoken to him yet. We\u2019re going to meet tonight and have a determination of what\u2019s going to happen tomorrow,\u201d Cooper told NHL.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
