Dear New York City,<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know what it is<\/p>\n
that makes me love you so much.<\/p>\n
Maybe it\u2019s the buildings<\/p>\n
that stretch toward the sky,<\/p>\n
forever reaching upward.<\/p>\n
Or maybe it\u2019s the noises and the lights,<\/p>\n
each one belonging to somebody.<\/p>\n
The light of the car is for the girl<\/p>\n
who just had her first date.<\/p>\n
The light from the window is for the manager<\/p>\n
who hates staying up late but loves the job.<\/p>\n
The laughter of friends,<\/p>\n
the horns of people with places to be.<\/p>\n
Maybe it\u2019s the diversity.<\/p>\n
Everyone is their own person \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n
different faces, styles, personalities.<\/p>\n
Everyone is on their own path,<\/p>\n
and yet they still connect.<\/p>\n
They connect when they share a seat<\/p>\n
on the subway<\/p>\n
or stand in line for pizza.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know what it is\u2026<\/p>\n
but I do know that<\/p>\n
the tall buildings feel like a home<\/p>\n
I never knew I had.<\/p>\n
I know that<\/p>\n
the lights and noises<\/p>\n
comfort me\u00a0<\/p>\n
despite the unfamiliarity.<\/p>\n
I know that<\/p>\n
every person interests me,<\/p>\n
and I want to know<\/p>\n
what it\u2019s like to lead each of their lives.<\/p>\n
I know that<\/p>\n
surrounded by chaos,<\/p>\n
I feel a sense of peace,<\/p>\n
a sense of longing<\/p>\n
to hold on to that feeling<\/p>\n
forever.<\/p>\n
I know that<\/p>\n
when I leave,<\/p>\n
the buildings,<\/p>\n
the noises and lights,<\/p>\n
the people<\/p>\n
fill my dreams,<\/p>\n
and I dream that<\/p>\n
one day<\/p>\n
the home I didn\u2019t know existed<\/p>\n
becomes the home I live in.<\/p>\n
