STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 If you\u2019re passionate about the cool, red hot, sultry sounds of jazz, and adore the genre that carries an air of timeless sophistication and swing, you won\u2019t want to miss the Al Lambert Jazz\/Swing Jam at Z 2 on Thursday, Feb. 26, where the music hits at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
On tap at the Charleston dining spot will be the talented Janice Friedman on piano, and her two jazz greats, Mike Campenni on drums, and Dave Kingsnorth on bass, along with Lambert who\u2019ll perform classic tunes from the Great American Song Book.<\/p>\n
The show will continue to unfold every last Thursday of the month, with various musicians who will sit in each week.<\/p>\n
FYI: Professional musicians and singers are welcome to join in and all are welcome to take in the show.<\/p>\n
A LITTLE ABOUT THE PERFORMERS<\/p>\n
Friedman\u2019s credits include playing with the Woody Herman Orchestra, with Frank Sinatra Jr.\u2019s band \u2014 and she was the first woman in the Buddy Rich Big Band Machine touring band. <\/p>\n
Her resume includes appearing at Birdland, Smalls and Sweet Basil in Manhattan, and touring with Marion McPartland\u2019s Band. <\/p>\n
A giant in the music industry, Lambert has opened shows for notables with names like Pat Cooper, Rodney Dangerfield, Jill Corey, Chuck Mangione, Vito Picone, The Shirelles, Sha Na Na, and Stiller and Meara, to name only a few. But that doesn\u2019t mean he hasn\u2019t rubbed elbows with Staten Island folks at the neighborhood barber\u2019s birthday party.<\/p>\n
As a member of the South Shore Rotary for the past 50 years, he\u2019s raised more than $2 million for over 35 worthy borough charities and has served in every capacity from board member to president.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s created and produced South Shore Rotary Shows since 1997 and, creator and director of the South Shore Rotary Chorus, he expanded the cast to 60 singers who\u2019ve performed throughout New York and the Tri-State area.<\/p>\n
Lambert is celebrating 63 years in the auto industry and 63 years in the entertainment business. \u201cTwo full-time careers and I\u2019m not tired of it. In fact, I\u2019m just getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n
ABOUT THE SHOW<\/p>\n
Steve Osman owner of Z2 commented: \u201dAl and I are friends over 30 years since we were across the street from each other on Hylan Boulevard when I had Bistro and Al was with GM with Villa Marin. Always glad to support events that serve Staten Island with good entertainment. Our staff is ready to serve all that night with quality and courtesy.”<\/p>\n
Lambert goes on to explain: \u201cThe high level of musicianship and respect for the craft that Janice brings to the table is infectious and musically nourishing. Then, having all these other pros sit in really makes for a great evening for me and the crowd. Come on down.\u201d <\/p>\n
The tab is just $10 at the door.<\/p>\n
