New York Attorney General Letitia James was photographed Thursday exiting her Brooklyn brownstone for a federal arraignment on mortgage fraud charges<\/a> in Virginia \u2014 where her \u201cfugitive\u201d grandniece will also be facing a possible restraining order for threatening to \u201cpunch\u201d a school official earlier this month.<\/p>\n

James, 67, will appear at the Walter E. Hoffman US Courthouse in Norfolk at 11 a.m. Friday, after being indicted by a federal grand jury<\/a> on Oct. 9 for bank fraud and making false claims to a financial institution \u2014 in a case that former prosecutors have said will be difficult to defend.<\/p>\n

Two hours before, her grandniece Nakia Thompson will also appear for a Friday hearing with an assistant principal at her kid\u2019s elementary school, who petitioned a Virginia judge for a protective order after Thompson shouted that she would \u201cpunch\u201d her in the \u201cf\u2013king face.\u201d<\/p>\n

New York Attorney General Letitia James is headed to Virginia for an arraignment on bank fraud and false statements to a financial institution charges. Gabriella Bass<\/p>\n

The New York AG bought a second home on Aug. 17, 2020, with a $109,600 loan that designated her as the \u201csole borrower to occupy and use the property.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, federal prosecutors alleged the Norfolk home \u201cwas not occupied or used\u201d by James and \u201cwas instead used as a rental investment property\u201d, which was occupied by Thompson.<\/p>\n

That will save her nearly $19,000 \u201cover the life of the loan,\u201d according to the five-page indictment filed by US Attorney Lindsey Halligan in the Eastern District of Virginia.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public\u2019s trust,\u201d Halligan said in a statement at the time. \u201cThe facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served.\u201d<\/p>\n

Federal prosecutors have alleged James\u2019 Norfolk home \u201cwas not occupied or used\u201d by the AG and \u201cwas instead used as a rental investment property\u201d resided in by her \u201cfugitive\u201d grandniece Nakia Thompson. Gabriella Bass<\/p>\n

James had listed the residence as an \u201cinvestment\u201d property in state ethics filings<\/a> until May of this year \u2014 one month after President Trump\u2019s Federal Housing Finance Agency\u00a0Director William Pulte referred<\/a> her to the Department of Justice for prosecution for alleged mortgage fraud in purchasing another home in Norfolk in 2023.<\/p>\n

The New York State financial disclosures showed her netting between $1,000 and $5,000 in rental income from her Virginia properties since 2020, though the relative who resides at the home at the center of the federal indictment testified to a grand jury earlier this year that she\u2019s never paid rent, The New York Times reported.<\/p>\n

Neighbors on the same street who spoke with The Post<\/a> last week said they have never seen the state AG popping in for a visit.<\/p>\n

Thompson will appear for a Friday hearing after an assistant principal at her kid\u2019s elementary school petitioned a Virginia judge for a protective order. Thompson allegedly threatened to \u201cpunch\u201d her in the \u201cf\u2013king face.\u201d<\/p>\n

James famously declared \u201cno one is above the law\u201d when bringing what resulted in a $500 million civil judgment against President Trump for inflating the value of his real estate empire \u2014 but has declared the federal fraud case against her \u201cbaseless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is nothing more than a continuation of the president\u2019s desperate weaponization of our justice system. He is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as the New York State Attorney General,\u201d said James in a statement after the indictment was handed up.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese charges are baseless, and the president\u2019s own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost. The president\u2019s actions are a grave violation of our Constitutional order and have drawn sharp criticism from members of both parties,\u201d added James, who is being represented by Democratic powerhouse attorney Abbe Lowell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Roger Keller, who had been serving as a Missouri-based prosecutor, will be appearing in the Norfolk federal courtroom to represent the US in the case.<\/p>\n

Thompson, 36, who is still living in the home named in the indictment,\u00a0is currently a wanted fugitive by North Carolina authorities with a slew of arrests<\/a> that include assaults on police officers, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 9, the same day that her great aunt James was indicted, Thompson was \u201cupset and used profane language\u201d on a phone call with assistant principal Marie Hall after one of her children got an \u201cinfraction referral\u201d at their elementary school, according to an affidavit.<\/p>\n

She later showed up on campus and began berating Hall and using \u201cverbal threats,\u201d the affidavit recounts, which resulted in school officials calling the police.<\/p>\n

\u201cBitch, I got something for you,\u201d she threatened. \u201cI\u2019m still gonna punch you in the f\u2013king face, bald-headed bitch.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Norfolk judge has already granted Hall a preliminary protective order, barring Thompson from committing acts of violence or having contact with the assistant principal.<\/p>\n

Shamice Thompson-Hairston lives full-time in the other home with two daughters. One of them, Cayla Thompson-Hairston, is a 21-year-old OnlyFans model with a rap sheet as well. TikTok\/@caylablxuu<\/p>\n

Thompson also got caught with James\u2019 relatives who live in the other Norfolk property stealing roughly $2,000 worth of merchandise from Macy\u2019s and Dillard\u2019s in Chesapeake, Va., in August 2019.<\/p>\n

She spent just six months in jail<\/a> with a more than five-year suspended sentence for the grand larceny.<\/p>\n

In April 2024, Cayla Thompson-Hairston was charged with lying about her felony criminal record when she tried to buy a gun in Suffolk, Virginia, court records show.<\/p>\n
