Comedy-drama Queens of Mystery is now available to watch for free on U, with all 12 episodes added to the streamer. Set in the fictional English village of Wildemarsh, the series follows a young detective and her three crime writer aunts.<\/p>\n

The series stars Olivia Vinall (Apple Tree Yard) as Detective Sgt. Mattie Stone, alongside Julie Graham (This City Is Ours), Sarah Woodward and Siobhan Redmond as her three aunts. <\/p>\n

In series two the role of Mattie is taken over by Florence Hall. <\/p>\n

Queens of Mystery originally aired on streaming service Acorn TV and was the streamer’s second-only entirely original production.<\/p>\n

It was created by Julian Unthank, who previously wrote for Martin Clunes’ comedy-drama Doc Martin. <\/p>\n

Described as “perennially single”, Mattie solves whodunit-style murders in the picturesque English village alongside her three eccentric, and very different, aunties. <\/p>\n

But the young detective also has a very personal mystery to solve \u2013 the disappearance of her mother Eleanor who vanished when Mattie was just three years old.<\/p>\n

The series also features Juliet Stevenson as the story’s narrator, which earned her a 2019 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Narrator.<\/p>\n

The use of Stevenson as the narrator caused fans on IMDB<\/a> to liken the show to classic ABC dark comedy Pushing Daises.<\/p>\n

One viewer wrote: “Reminds me of Pushing Daisies. Insights to what the characters are thinking, fable like story telling, brilliant, saturated colours. A nice change from the gritty reality of most crime related entertainment.”<\/p>\n

While another added: “Fun characters, great visual appeal, and quirky story! Has a Pushing Daisies feel to it that I love!”<\/p>\n

A third fan praised it for paying “homage to old school murder mystery novels and television whilst adding its own unique charm”. <\/p>\n

The viewer added: “Incredible female characters who are similar enough to be believable as sisters but nuanced enough to be entertaining make an already entertaining premise work fantastically well.”<\/p>\n
