A police spokesperson told Norwood News that the department received a call at 7.53 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, for a report of a vehicle collided with scaffolding at 125 Van Cortlandt Avenue West.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJust the one vehicle struck the scaffolding,\u201d the police spokesperson said. \u201cNo injuries listed.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Asked how many occupants in the impacted vehicle, we were informed there was just one.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the FDNY said they received a call similarly at 7.53 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a building at 125 Van Cortlandt Avenue West between Orloff Avenue and Bailey Avenue.<\/p>\n They said there were no injuries and the incident was closed at 8.19 p.m.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A visit to the location by Norwood News on Sunday night found the vehicle still there cordoned off by police tape and seemingly holding up part of the collapsed scaffolding, while other parts of the walkway underneath the scaffolding were also cordoned off with police tape.<\/p>\n A notice board affixed to the impacted scaffolding read, \u201c120 Gale Avenue Amalgamated Housing Corporation. Norwood News has reached out to NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) for more information.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n No emergency services were at the scene by the time we got there.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n City workers were seen spreading salt and clearing snow later Sunday night in different parts of the borough.<\/p>\n NYPD investigates any criminal aspects of such collisions while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) looks into the street design at the location of such crashes.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On Saturday, Feb. 21, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in New York ahead of the impending snowstorm, which is expected to last until Monday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. with 24 inches of snow in some parts of the State expected.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Sunday that all public schools would remain closed for a full snow day on Monday, Feb. 23.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A citywide travel ban will took effect at 9 p.m. Sunday. \u201cDuring this time, streets, highways, and bridges will be closed to all vehicles (cars, trucks, scooters, e-bikes),\u201d an extract from the 311 Service read. \u201cEssential and emergency trips only.\u201d<\/p>\n City officials said the state of emergency declaration has given rise to a temporary citywide travel restriction by closing NYC streets, highways, bridges and tunnels to vehicular traffic from 9 p.m. Sunday to 12 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n Most vehicle traffic, including but not limited to commercial trucks, electric bicycles, scooters, and mopeds, is prohibited during that period, except for authorized categories, they said.<\/p>\n Exempt vehicles include:<\/p>\n * government and emergency response vehicles<\/p>\n * public transit, including MTA buses and Access-A-Ride<\/p>\n * vehicles delivering food, fuel and medical supplies<\/p>\n * utility vehicles performing emergency repairs<\/p>\n * transportation for essential workers traveling to workplaces, including health care facilities, pharmacies, grocery stores, gas stations, media outlets, hotels and laundromats<\/p>\n * transportation to hospitals and court facilities<\/p>\n * nonprofit and private organizations providing emergency relief<\/p>\n Animal rights groups are encouraging residents to offer protection and food to street animals amid the snowstorm.
