(WMTV) – Fifteen Watertown High School students and their teachers are stuck in New York City after a blizzard prompted a state travel ban.<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s AP art history class traveled to New York City on a field trip. Their flight back to Wisconsin was canceled Saturday night.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were all a little nervous about where we\u2019re going to stay, how long we\u2019re going to have to stay extra for,\u201d Ella Mock, a Watertown High School senior said.<\/p>\n

After going through a lengthy process with their airline, the group secured a new flight. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out we can\u2019t fly out until Tuesday, noon Tuesday, so two days after,\u201d Mock said.<\/p>\n
The students will miss two days of school as a result of the delay.<\/p>\n
Blizzard warnings across New York<\/p>\n
New York Governor Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers not to underestimate the storm.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t think that you are stronger than Mother Nature, okay? Do not try to outsmart Mother Nature,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said coastal areas might also see flooding.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew York City has not faced a storm of this scale in the last decade,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n
Teachers keep class going amid the delay<\/p>\n
While stranded, Watertown teachers have continued holding art class for their students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is an art store across the street. We made sure we went over there today and bought some supplies so that they could draw,\u201d Jana Strobel, a teacher on the trip said. \u201cWe brainstormed some sort of speed drawing activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sophomore Ever Elkins said the group is feeling the effects of the extended stay.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like we\u2019re all feeling homesick and we all kind of want to go home,\u201d Elkins said.<\/p>\n
Junior Krystal Groves offered a message for those in a similar situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would say just stay positive. It will all work out in the end,\u201d Groves said.<\/p>\n
The group also said another Wisconsin school with a similar class is stranded in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n
