Residents should place items curbside according to their normal schedule and leave them out until collected. Snow-covered items should be cleared to ensure pickup.<\/p>\n<p>Warming centers remain open across the city as extreme cold lingers. City officials are encouraging anyone needing relief from low temperatures to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.311.nyc.gov\/article\/?kanumber=KA-03702\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">visit a designated location<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Public and private schools<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/education\/2026\/02\/22\/city-schools-snow-monday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York City public schools are closed Monday<\/a> for a traditional snow day \u2014 the first of the winter.<\/p>\n<p>Catholic elementary schools under the Archdiocese of New York in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island are also closed.<\/p>\n<p>Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens, Catholic high schools, charter schools and other private schools make their own decisions. Families are advised to check directly with their individual schools for updates.<\/p>\n<p>Transit adjustments<\/p>\n<p>Subway and bus service is running citywide, with delays and modifications. Some express trains are operating local, and buses are moving more slowly due to snow-covered roads and detours. Riders are urged to check the MTA app for real-time updates and to allow extra travel time.<\/p>\n<p>Metro-North Railroad is operating on an hourly schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The Long Island Rail Road remains suspended in Nassau and Suffolk counties.<\/p>\n<p>The Staten Island Ferry shifted to hourly service overnight and resumed half-hour service at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>NYC Ferry ended service Sunday evening and plans a delayed restart. Riders should\u00a0check the NYC Ferry app or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferry.nyc\/service-alerts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ferry.nyc<\/a>\u00a0for real-time updates.<\/p>\n<p>Citi Bike service is suspended.<\/p>\n<p>Airports<\/p>\n<p>Flights are heavily impacted.<\/p>\n<p>As of early Monday, more than 1,000 flights were canceled at LaGuardia Airport and John F.
