{"id":143148,"date":"2026-02-23T21:18:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T21:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/143148\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T21:18:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T21:18:09","slug":"petition-calls-for-nyc-to-release-all-files-on-9-11-after-bombshell-ground-zero-memo-exposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/143148\/","title":{"rendered":"Petition calls for NYC to release all files on 9\/11 after bombshell Ground Zero memo exposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 9\/11 cancer survivor is calling on Mayor Zohran Mamdani to release all city documents about deadly Ground Zero toxins \u2014 after a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/05\/us-news\/bombshell-memo-reveals-city-knew-about-potential-risks-of-deadly-9-11-toxins-shameful\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bombshell memo showed officials knew they could be deadly<\/a> all along.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Marie Principe, 66, said the new mayor campaigned on promoting \u201ctransparency in government\u201d and he should make public any documents that show health and environmental concerns at Ground Zero after the 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re asking the mayor to release all documents related to health and the environment,\u201d said Principe, who ran a model and talent agency near the WTC site. \u201cIt\u2019s not his fault. Ribeiro for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s now Mamdani\u2019s job to clean up that mess, said Principe, who is battling a second bout of breast cancer and has small airway disease.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,200 people have signed her \u201cUrge Mayor Mamdani to release the 9\/11 document\u201d change.org petition.<\/p>\n<p>A bombshell memo made public last month proved the city knew about the potential risks of toxins weeks after the terror attacks \u2014 but officials told New Yorkers it was safe to return to Lower Manhattan anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The city previously moved to dismiss attempts to disclose its own toxin records, at one point claiming it had no documents \u2013 and only reversed course last year after a Department of Investigation probe spearheaded by Councilwoman Gale Brewer (D-Manhattan) <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/24\/us-news\/fdny-union-furious-over-sudden-discovery-of-68-boxes-of-9-11-health-data\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found 68 boxes of 9\/11 health-related documents<\/a>, according to lawyers for some of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said more people would die after 9\/11 from getting sick than those killed on that day,\u201d Principe said. \u201cUnfortunately that turned out to be true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 68 boxes of documents include the \u201cHarding Memo\u201d that proved the city was aware of the danger in the area near Ground Zero just weeks after the attacks. Ribeiro for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Some 3,000 people were killed in the terror attacks but another 7,000 people have died in the years since from<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/06\/us-news\/number-of-first-responders-others-with-cancers-linked-to-sept-11-skyrockets\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> cancers and illnesses potentially linked to exposure to Ground Zero toxins.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Principe said, \u201cit\u2019s the most opportune time\u201d to release the documents and expose the truth as the 25th anniversary of the tragedy approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis can promote healing for those of us who have lived with unanswered questions all these years. And it will honor those we have lost,\u201d Principe said in the petition. \u201cWe urge you to open the pathways for healing by making these documents public. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Petition organizer Anne Marie Principe noted that Mamdani campaigned on \u201ctransparency in government.\u201d Andrew Schwartz \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>The petition recommends that Mamdani create a Ground Zero Task Force composed of 9\/11 family members, survivors, downtown residents, volunteers, small businesses, legislators, and others.<\/p>\n<p>Principe acknowledged the release of documents could be a \u201cpandora\u2019s box\u201d that could trigger negligence lawsuits against the city that responded to the worst terror attack in American history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they handled it properly in the first place,\u201d Principe said, \u201cthey wouldn\u2019t have this problem.\u201d\u2028\u2028<\/p>\n<p>Almost 50,000 first responders and other 9\/11 survivors have been diagnosed with cancer since the terror attacks.<\/p>\n<p>She recalled there was tremendous pressure despite the health concerns to quickly reopen Wall Street, the financial capital of the US, after the terror attacks that toppled the Twin Towers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey made a decision that we were disposable. My life had no value,\u201d Principe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were the price that was paid. I\u2019m home sick with my second bout of cancer because I trusted my government.
